A Cessna 172 Flew From California To Hawaii For The First Time For Exactly 18 Hours

Imagine, if you will, the following scenario. You’re on an 18-hour flight. Your seat doesn’t recline. There is no in-flight entertainment. There is no in-flight service. The cabin is not pressurized. You can’t go to the bathroom – because there isn’t one. And you’re the only passenger.  Oh…and you’re the pilot, too.  For Tom Lopes, this scenario played out in a very real way on Saturday. Lopes completed the 2,521-mile journey when he ferried a brand-new Cessna 172 G1000 NXi Skyhawk (reg. N490NW) from Merced Regional Airport (MCE) in Merced, California, to Daniel K. Inouye International…

US pilot ejected himself from fighter plane in mind-blowing accident on the Texas runway

A US pilot was ejected from an F-35 fighter jet in Texas on Thursday in a strange slow-motion crash captured in video that was shared widely on social media and suffered no serious injuries.  The F-35B, the Marine Corps’ version of the fifth-generation fighter jet, was slowly descending toward the runway at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth when its landing gear appeared to jump after the initial landing. The aircraft then crashed nose first and began to rotate, prompting the pilot to eject.  Officials have not publicly…

Pilot shortages can pose a major problem for the post-pandemic aviation industry

For the past few years, securing a pipeline of new pilots has been a primary concern for airlines around the world. In a 2019 Oliver Wyman poll of flight operations leaders, 62 percent listed a shortage of qualified pilots as a key risk. The root cause of the coming shortage varies by region: In the United States, it’s an aging workforce facing mandatory retirement, fewer pilots exiting the military, and barriers to entry, including the cost of training. In China and other regions where a burgeoning middle class is demanding…

In the Cirrus Jet CAPS pull, the pilot escaped injury!

Shortly after takeoff Friday morning from Indianapolis Regional Airport, pilot Timothy Borrup’s Cirrus Vision Jet SF50 started sputtering and stalling — and the plane started to “nose up” and lose power. That’s when Borrup, of Palm Bay, deployed the single-engine jet’s emergency parachute system. A large orange-and-white parachute billowed into shape in the sky, attached to the front of the aircraft. And, sitting in the pilot’s seat, Borrup floated back earthward before splashing down in a retention pond near Interstate 70 west of Greenfield, Ind., the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press release. No injuries were reported…

European aviation regulator EASA is looking into the possibility to start single-pilot flight operations. In a ICAO working paper, EASA requested – on behalf of member states – that the “necessary enablers” be created “for a safe and globally harmonized introduction of commercial air transport (CAT) operations of large aircraft with optimised crew/single-pilot operations while ensuring an equivalent or higher level of safety compared to that achieved in current operations.” While manufacturers are confident about the implementation, pilot associations are more cautious. Turkish Airlines in EU Crosshairs for Facilitating Lukashenko’s “Hybrid Warfare” With Belarus Flights

The European Union reportedly has Turkish Airlines, Turkey’s national flag carrier, in its crosshairs due to the airline’s alleged role in trafficking migrants to Belarus.
